How Weaver Barns Builds Better: Our Construction Details
A Weaver Barns shed, garage, cabin, or backyard structure is not just built to look great on delivery day. It is built to last for decades. Every building that leaves our shop carries the craftsmanship of our Amish and Mennonite builders, who take genuine pride in the quality of their work. Here is a look at exactly what goes into every structure we build.
Framing
- 2×4 Studs and Trusses
-
The strength of any building starts with its frame. At Weaver Barns, we build every structure with:
- 2×4 wall studs spaced 16″ on center for a solid, rigid sidewall
- 2×4 trusses or rafters spaced 16″ on center to carry the roof load evenly
- Metal gussets on all trusses for added truss strength
All framing and siding nails are ring-shanked for maximum holding power and galvanized for corrosion resistance through Ohio’s freeze-thaw cycles and humid summers.
Siding Options
- SmartSide Lap
-
SmartSide Lap is an engineered-wood lap siding with fewer seams and a clean, traditional profile. Its wood-grain appearance is designed to provide the look of real wood, and the product carries a 50-year limited manufacturer’s warranty.
- Duratemp Siding
-
Duratemp is an engineered-wood panel siding with a composite surface over a plywood veneer core. It is designed to resist cracking and splitting, provides the look of real wood, and carries a 50-year limited manufacturer’s warranty.
- Board & Batten
-
Board & Batten siding gives your structure a classic farmhouse or barn look. This vertical-panel style pairs especially well with our Dutch Barn, Highland, and Sugarcreek models.
- Vinyl Siding
-
Vinyl siding requires little routine maintenance and does not require repainting under normal conditions. Vinyl siding is installed over a full 1/2″ OSB subsiding for a solid, rattle-free wall. Vinyl-sided buildings come standard with vented vinyl soffits and a ridge vent, and doors and fascia are trimmed with aluminum for a low-maintenance exterior. Standard vinyl colors include White, Gray, Pewter, Clay, Nightfall, Sea Slate, Sandalwood, and Mountain Berry, with additional premium options available. See Current Colors & Options for the latest selections.
- Paint
-
We apply all paint using Haley Paint, which carries a 10-year non-fade and 25-year adhesion promise. Weaver Barns warranties our paint and stain application for 12 months from the delivery date.
Roofing Options
- Architectural Shingle Roofs
-
Shingle roofs are built on a full 1/2″ plywood deck, which stays flat and straight and resists warping.
We use dimensional (architectural) shingles as our standard, available in six colors: Driftwood, Estate Gray, Onyx Black, Desert Tan, Teak, and Brownwood. Optional Duration shingles are available in the same colors plus Chateau Green. All shingle roofs include drip edge protection along every eave and rake to prevent moisture from wicking under the shingles.
- Metal Roofing
-
Our metal roofing is a premium, low-maintenance option. Metal roofing avoids the risk of individual shingles loosening or blowing off during severe weather. Metal colors include Gallery Blue, Green, Hawaiian Blue, Bright Red, Bright White, Black, Galvalume, Light Gray, Light Stone, Brown, Burgundy, Charcoal, Rustic Red, Tan, Clay, and Antique Bronze.
Underneath every metal roof we install an R-value bubble foil insulation and vapor barrier, which prevents condensation during rapid temperature changes. This is a critical feature for anyone who plans to store sensitive items or work in their building year-round.
- Roof Pitch Options
-
Available roof pitches depend on the model, size and structure type. Select shed models may be upgraded as steep as 12/12, while pitch options for garages, cabins and larger structures vary by design.
Flooring
- Standard Shed Floors
-
Weaver Barns floor systems are designed to provide a strong, durable base for the building’s intended use.
- 1 ½” thick, 2×8 Tongue and Groove Treated Floor. This floor is strong enough to handle everything that you need to store, including tractors, vehicle storage and lawn furniture.
- 4×4 or 4×6 pressure-treated skids to support the floor off the ground and resist ground moisture
- Garage Floors
-
Our garage-grade floor uses 2×8 tongue-and-groove pressure-treated floorboards. This provides the heavy-duty foundation needed for vehicles, tractors, zero-turn mowers, and other heavy equipment, and performs well in the higher-moisture environment of a working garage.
Doors
- Wood Doors
-
Our wood doors for painted and stained buildings are three-layer, heavy-duty doors built to last made from solid cedar. Each door starts with a 2×4 on-edge frame, which is then overlaid with a matching siding panel and finished with a premium trim frame fastened from behind with screws. The result is a door that is both strong and attractive.
Doors are hung on heavy-duty black hinges with nylon bushings so they swing smoothly and stay aligned for years. All doors come standard with:
- Keyed latches for security
- Heavy-duty slide bolts on the top and bottom for added rigidity when closed
We offer an extensive lineup of wood single doors, double doors, and triple doors in styles #100, #101, #102, #103, #200, #202, #203, and #204, ranging from 30″ single doors up to 9′ triple-door configurations. Sliding doors are also available in a 10′ x 7′ size, with an optional transom.
- Vinyl Doors
-
Vinyl doors match our vinyl-sided buildings and require no painting. Available in single and double configurations in Sandalwood, Gray, Pewter, and Clay.
- Steel Entry Doors
-
For customers who want the look and security of a residential-grade entrance, we offer steel entry doors in 6-panel, 9-lite, 3-lite, and 15-lite configurations, in both single (36″) and double (72″) widths. Steel doors are available in a wide range of colors and can be upgraded with a deadbolt.
- Overhead Garage Doors
-
Our overhead garage doors are available in standard insulated and uninsulated versions, along with carriage house and full-glass options. Garage door openers with a remote are available as an upgrade.
Ventilation
- Ridge Vents & Vented Soffits
-
Proper airflow protects your belongings from moisture and prevents your building from sweating during temperature swings.
- Signature series buildings come standard with a ridge vent plus vented soffits, creating a continuous airflow path from soffit to ridge.
Windows
- Aluminum and Vinyl, Transoms, and Skylights
-
We offer aluminum and vinyl windows in single-hung and double-hung configurations. All windows include screens and grids. Standard sizes range from 2’x2′ up to 3’x4′, with transom and skylight options also available. Vinyl windows are available in White, with upgrade options in Almond, Black, and Clay.
Decorative panel shutters (K-Panel and Plain-Panel) and flower boxes are available in both wood and vinyl to add curb appeal.
